A Day of Thanks
This has been a Thanksgiving unlike any other we've had. As we woke to the news of the Mumbai attacks, we had one more reason to consider all of the many blessings we enjoy. More than anything, we realize how thankful we are for our loving family and close friends. As I'm writing this, our Thanksgiving is coming to a close, and yours is just underway. We hope you each have a wonderful day and a chance to reflect on all of the blessings the Lord has showered on each of us.Other than what we've learned through the internet and the morning paper, we've gleaned very little information about the Mumbai attacks. Of course our interaction with others has been limited. We certainly feel for the victims and their families.
When we first heard the news, we considered whether we should change our plans and stay here at the hotel. Considering that two of the attacks took place in hotels, that didn't seem like the best choice. In the end, we went to Agra and all went well.We spent much of the day driving to and from Agra, to see the Taj Mahal. Although we have seen pictures and heard others' descriptions, when we first saw it we were still stunned by its beauty. It was fun to see, and worth the considerable effort to get there. In retrospect, it would have been better as a two day excursion. However, Leena was a trooper and did remarkably well.
Leena is getting more and more comfortable with us each day. She has a very cute, playful personality that we're really just getting a glimpse of. She has a wry smile that steals the hearts of those around us every where we go. As I'm writing this, she's just dozing off to sleep next to me. When we are in the hotel room or the car, she still wants Heather to hold her most of the time. Away from the Hotel and car, and even at times there too, she comes easily to Nate and me. On her list of favorites, I'm clearly in 3rd place.
Nate continues to show his adaptability. He's too tall for the bed here in our Delhi hotel room, so he can't stretch out in bed. He hasn't complained, and just goes with the flow wherever we are, and is always willing to help with Leena. From the son who used to be upset if there was anything but ketchup on his hamburgers, I'm a little surprised at how he has fallen in love with Indian food. We haven't found anything that he hasn't said he enjoyed.
As you might expect, Leena makes a conspicuous sight travelling with the three of us. People stop us everywhere to confirm that we're adopting her, and ask questions about it. I suspect John and Erin had similar experiences. On a couple of occasions, after we confirmed that we have adopted Leena, they asked if Nate is her adoptive father. Heather was quick to point out that must mean they thought I'm her grandfather. Unfortunately, it probably won't be the last time I hear that.Tomorrow, we go to the Embassy first thing in the morning to complete the application for Leena's visa. It shouldn't take more than an hour. We will see Old Delhi and probably some of the markets, and hopefully have a quieter day.We can't wait to speak with you. Happy Thanksgiving to all, and thanks for your thoughts and prayers on our behalf.(Kent)

HI! I am so curious about her! She just looks and sounds like a happy fun child. Does she say any words? You may want to start on Aunt Michelle. I am, of course, worried about you! You may want to pick me up some worry beads while you are there. We are praying you home! What size would you say she fits in? I need to know!!! I am so thankful for you and I am so jealous! Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I ran the Anthem 10K Turkey Trot this morning. I just woke up and did it. No preparation whatsoever. It was funny because mom, dad, Derek and Jen just kept looping me while they were in the car cheering and taking pictures! It was very fun and it poured rain the second half so that was an adventure. There was a rainbow at the end so that will be a good sign for all of us. I will eat some extra pie for you today in your honor. hee hee I love you all! xoxoxMichelle
AWESOME!!!
What a thrill for you....and to think we were is the same spot at the Taj last week! (We took pictures with Dave holding up the building as well.) Old Town is interesting. Hopefully, you'll see the Mosque and the Red Fort....but just the street sights will be forever be embedded in your mind and heart. Be safe and hurry home with our little Leena. We are anxiously awaiting.xoxo Mom
And we are so grateful for you and the way you've tugged our heartstrings with your story! We can't wait each day to log on and check on Leena and get to know her a little. We can hardly wait to talk to you tonight and are crossing our fingers that it will work. Your kids are great! Eliza, Claire, and Meg are having a "John & Kate + Eight" marathon! Cole is golfing and Dalton wants to drive the golf cart! We count our blessings that you are safe, happy, and coming home to us soon! We love you all! the Jacksons
Happy Thanksgiving!! We are all thinking of you today. We are enjoying your children, each other and the updates from your blog!! We had an adventurous ride here. Claire, Thomas, Eliza and Dalton rode with us from St. George. Unfortunately, when we had our car serviced last week, they damaged our transmission. We found this out between St. George and Las Vegas. After consulting with the Aamco man, who told us he needed to rebuild our transmission, we had to rent a car and continue on. After a few hours in the parking lot playing soccer and guessing games Rees pulled up in a 15-passenger PARTY VAN!!! Dalton and Eliza were giddy with excitement. Dalton, upon climbing in (and I do mean climbing!), said, "I'm SO glad I didn't go with Grammy today. THIS is the SWEETEST car I've ever seen! We don't even need to get a hotel! We could just stay in this." They rode the rest of the way with a row apiece.
We love you all and are hoping you will continue to be safe and well. The kids are enjoying each other and are playing wel. They love checking your blog multiple times a day. They're enamored of their charming little sister, as we all are. Love to you all! Lyssa Jane
Happy Thanksgiving from Colorado-we watched the news last night and when they said "hotels" I was worried and Kurt kept saying where are they andI said its a town wih four letters and starts with a "P" so we were not so worried hoping you were far away from all that. Kadee just thought to ask my brother to use the computer so I was able to read your post. I think if Kent can bring home the cute little boy in the earlier pictures that would be great-Leena would have a friend and Kurt could have his boy! i know how hard and serious this has been for your family and I'm so touched to see it all come together! Hope you have a great rest of the time, I know you'll be blessed and safe while your there. Love Rolfes P.S. Kadee says to N8-Yo Yo, what up, I miss you-Love you. Tell Gpa Kent Hi!!
