I hijacked this post from my niece Libby Mei's Blog. It is a letter to Leena written by her dear Auntie Erin. When Libby saw the picture of Leena she said, "Mom, she looks like Dorothy!" I said - all she needs is some ruby slippers!! Leena we are aching to hold you in our arms.
To my darling niece,
To my darling niece,
When I opened up my e-mail today to find this latest photograph of you, my heart could have almost burst with love. Your Nannies seem enchanted with you, writing that you say "Tai" to call them--- "demanding to be carried". I am happy to hear that you are "demanding to be carried", because I know that this is what a baby should do! Look at you standing up all by yourself. We are told that you are walking all over the room now. In India... so far away. I think I can tell from your smile that you have a joyful heart... and maybe a bit of "beans and ginger" in you. We will be meeting in a few short weeks. Your Mommy & Daddy are pretty much snookered. You can be sure that when you say "Tai" to them, you will get "carried"--- or just about anything else that you want. Oh yes, yes you will.
Anyway, my dear Leena... I love you! We all do.
Your Auntie Erin
p.s. Libby Mei thinks that your "Dorothy" dress is very pretty! Maybe we will get you some ruby slippers... because, well, "there's no place like home"!
